Property Brothers: Downsizing with Daughters | Family Room Reveal
It is great privilege to have the opportunity to be invited into peoples homes as a designer. I use the word privilege as we don’t take this lightly. When we begin a new project it often means our clients are looking to make their homes (and ultimately their lives) better. This is something we have a high level of respect for. Completed, polished spaces, considering both function and aesthetic, bring positivity to everyday living. Subsequently this impacts the feeling you have while enjoying your home as a family, and sharing it with friends.
We were excited to get to work on this space, and as you may have seen through the kitchen renovation before and after, the transformation of this home was much needed and the final outcome is truly something else.
The before photos of the family room show that the space lacked a positive feeling, aesthetic appeal and likely a desire to spend much time there. The DIY efforts had not come to fruition as planned and a change was certainly required.
Before:
Here’s what the family room renovation consisted of:
Took down DIY drywall work covering brick fireplace
Updated single patio door with bright and modern French doors.
Asbestos abatement and new drywall ceilings.
Replaced hardwood floors.
Added wall to wall sheer drapery panels to elevate and soften the French doors and add a layer of privacy.
Enhanced existing fireplace with fresh drywall and panel moulding
Updated existing hearth with modern quartz slab.
Replaced fireplace unit.
Optimized furniture layout with new family room furniture, including a sofa, sitting chair, side tables and upholstered ottoman.
