Fashion to Interiors: GP&J Baker and H&M Fall 2018

When Alex showed up to work wearing this kimono I instantly took notice. Isn't it fabulous?! A large scale floral statement piece with contrast geometric hem in a fantastic colour combination. Yes please!!

I love a good collab. Especially one involving a fashion brand with an interior brand. So when I heard about the GP & J Baker fabric line joining forces with H&M I couldn't wait to see more as it did seem an unlikely combo. GP & J Baker is known for its traditional prints and large scale floral patterns, while H&M boasts an arguably more youthful approach to its clothing. But this match is fun, unexpected, colourful, graphic, bold and sophisticated, providing true statement pieces in your wardrobe much like you'd upholster a special chair in your living room, the backs of dining chairs or statement accent pillows.

The connection of traditional prints used in a modern way is something I love in design. The approach of unusual colour combinations giving a room that "good tension" and unexpected feel requests a moment to pause, allowing time to take it all in. It takes confidence and an unabashed approached to 'designing with what you love' in mind, mixing and matching and not always playing it safe. Throwing a statement kimono on will surely get noticed. Boldly wearing a pair of wide leg trousers in a large scale floral print may be a little more out of our comfort zone but a fashion statement nonetheless. Bringing this look into our homes is bolder as the investment is more and arguable longer term than an article of clothing. It often comes down to comfort and quite frankly bravery. I just love a good mix of pattern and colour combinations in interiors, however taking this same approach in my wardrobe is admittedly a little more difficult. I am however, going to be picking up a few of these pieces from H&M to add to my fall wardrobe!
