3 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues
For many, short winter days and snowy streets bring a feeling of blah. It can be hard to stay positive when the weather is cold and daylight is limited. We're here to help! We've put together some ideas to kick those winter blues in the butt and make the remaining winter season more bearable. Check out our ideas below!
1. Update Your Bedding
Instead of the typical pillow or throw update, why not try a new set of bedding for your bedroom? This is a great way to add colour, pattern and/or texture and change the overall feel of your space simply, yet quite dramatically.
2. Bring The Outdoors In
Add live greenery to your home! Welcoming plants to your decor will liven up your space by providing a pop of colour and texture. Not only will live greenery enhance your decor, they offer many environmental and health benefits. Plants increase oxygen levels and remove toxins from the air, furnishings, as well as finishes and materials. Not to mention plants make people happy! Having indoor plants provides a calmer environment making you feel more optimistic, and contributes to your overall well being. Check out some of our favourites below and better yet, give them a try in your own space!
Snake Plant
Purifies air and removes formaldehyde.
Tip: Place near crafting areas or in new or renovated homes with fresh paint, new floors, etc.
Aloe
Helps boost the body’s natural ability to adapt to external changes and resist illness, allowing you to have an increased ability to cope with stress.
Split Leaf Philodendron
Purifies air and removes nitrogen oxide produced by fuel burning appliances.
Tip: Place in kitchens or rooms with wood stoves.
3. Change Your Lighting Temperature
Lighting temperature is often overlooked, yet a critical element in any design and will greatly affect your mood and overall well-being. Exposure to indoor lighting that mimics sunlight, activates certain chemicals in the brain and helps with mood regulation. Colour temperature also helps your body’s production of melatonin, which in turn helps to regulate sleep. We stumbled across a new product from Philips called Hue White and Colour Ambiance smart bulbs. Controlled by a tablet or smartphone, these bulbs can be programmed to change the colour of light they produce depending on the time of day, season or mood. So cool! Or warm ;)
