Kitchen Trends from KBIS 2018
I'm back from Orlando and still trying to gather my thoughts on all I saw. It was a whirlwind three days at KBIS with Modenus' BlogTour taking in the latest and greatest in the kitchen and bath industry. This was by far the largest trade show I had ever been too and it didn't disappoint. With innovation at the helm, kitchens are becoming art forms and now more than ever an interactive experience within the home.
Appliances are no longer just about function. They are about enhancing an in-home culinary experience with respect to refrigeration, cooking and even cleaning. The innovation and advancements being made are incredible. Appliances are becoming computers in and of themselves and the connection to the world can be brought right into your kitchen. (more on that in another post!)
There were a few stand out products at KBIS as well as some commonalities with respect to up and coming trends. It's exciting to see the innovation, creativity and design these companies are putting forth. Here are a few of the standouts -
Concealed | Flush Appliances
Fridges are moving in! Into the walls that is. This is integration at it's best. The depth of a fridge has often been a cumbersome detail to contain within cabinetry and with panel ready options this allowed us to conceal the fridge/ freezer as much as possible providing a less busy look. Add in a touch latch opening mechanism and you now have no hardware to contend with offering a seamless visual within your kitchen. What once was a large appliance that protruded into your kitchen is now a concealed powerhouse that blends effortlessly into your cabinetry.
With offerings such as open door assist (it also closes on it's own if it's left slightly open accidentally!), the Daily Chef system and ThermaFresh, Thermador is dedicated to preserving the life of produce. This integrated system is full of benefits to provide the best cooking experience possible.

This attention to detail doesn't stop with refrigeration, Thermador's Pro Series Ovens also provide an integrated installation and connection to the millwork. Love!
German made Liebherr, offers advanced food preservation, design flexibility, maximum energy efficiency and ease of use. All of this hard work and you can hardly tell it's an appliance!
Cooking Experiences
The party's in the kitchen! I don't know about you but our's always ends up there and more often than not we're preparing dinner, while conversing and laughing, with a glass of wine in hand and music on in the background. Our ways of entertaining are becoming more relaxing, informal and interactive, and these products are helping to enhance this experience.
american standard MeasureFill Kitchen Faucet
Ever attempt to fill a measuring cup to your desired volume, dump out an excess, and fill it back up after having dumped out too much? What a pain! Set your desired amount of water with American Standard's MeasureFill kitchen faucet and you'll have a perfect fill every time. Even turn the faucet on and walk away, it will turn off automatically. Fill from 1/2 cup to 5 cups.
Signature Dual Fuel Pro Range with Sous Vide
For the "technicurean", those who love technology as much as cooking, this range is for you. Equipped with sous-vide, induction and WiFi enabled with SmartThinQ™ app, it's ready for any type of gathering.
The Galley Sink
I can honestly answer "I'd like a Galley, please!" after seeing their question "Do you want a sink? Or do you want a Galley?" This genius approach to prepping, cooking, serving, cleaning and entertaining is interactive cooking at it's finest. Purchase in one foot increments and choose the accessories to best suit your lifestyle and size of sink. I'm in love with this concept!
Open Storage
While not a specific product per se but an application or design detail I saw often throughout the show. Open shelves, for display and storage, provides an opportunity to visibly mix materials, add accents and combine finishes in an unexpected way.
Above: Wilsonart did just that with combining multiple surfaces in this oven shelving, pantry style storage. I was quite impressed by Wilsonart and the advancements they've made over the years. They're not just a laminiate company! Their offerings extend from wall applications to counters, solid surfaces to translucent wall details. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with their product.
Below: Displays at Harmoni and Dacor booths also show open shelving adding personality to the kitchen.
And to think this is just the kitchen trends! I'll share what I saw on the bath side next. I was thrilled to be able to attend this show and learnt so much. I was introduced to some incredible new product and of course people.
